Garage Door Cable Repair

I have just got a couple of estimates for replacing the cables on a Cardale Garage Door. They were both around £150!
From what I have read somebody that knows what they are doing can do the job in half an hour and the parts are £6 on Amazon. I don't mind spending three hours on it if I can do the job properly!
There seems to be quite a bit of information on Youtube about repairing it yourself but a couple of things are not very clear.
The vital thing is to isolate the tension from the main spring which I think I can do. If I can do that I think I should be able to get the new cables on each end.
What I am unclear about is where and how to connect the ends of the cable. When in place will the cables require retensioning? The door is in a locked closed position at the moment(and has been for a few months) because only one cable has broken.
