dvds on media player

i am having trouble watching dvds on media player v10. the picture is just a blur of colours and i canhear the sound.
i assume i need some codecs but where can i get them from

    Hmmm, I've got a decoder pack, a free one, can't remember where from. I haven't used it in a while (I use PowerDVD as it came with my DVD-Writer) but I'll install it when I get home to see if it still works (I used to use it with Media Player 8). I'll google around.

    Edit:
    Actually try a free dvd player called MaximusDVD. The reason I switched away from media player is that I didn't find it great for playing dvds, especially when trying to select menu items.

    can you not use anything other than mplayer? i dont think its all that well regarded, did u get s/ware with the drive, if not you can try vlc https://www.videolan.org *ithink* its not a beautiful system but it doesnt require codecs to be installed.

    WMP is horrible. I use DivX player instead. Crystal clear and bug free.

    Download the Ace mega codec pack 6.03
