  • Opened everything on 30th June .......Advance a/c, ISA and reg saver.

Got home and realised that it was last day of month!

Phoned and asked adviser whether June it would count as the 'first month of the two months £1750 pay in requirement - adviser didnt know!

FORTUNATELY I was able to dig out old records of internet login for an account closed years ago - they still worked and found my new account - so banged £1750 in quick....!!

also funded both advance a/c and ISA now for August .....

First ISA payment went in 3rd July - I've read the Ts and Cs but, from experience, roughly when do they start paying the tenners and is it always the same number of days after 11th and before 31st of the month following deposit?

The payments of the £10 vary, but will be between the 11th - 31st of the month.

  • I originally applied for this account June time and was refused (I think because my salary was below the threshold).

I have recently received a payrise so am now well over the £26,400 requirement.

How long should I leave it before reapplying for the account?

Account finally opened Today & given £150 compensation. Switch scheduled for Aug 25th (maybe quicker if documents arrive soon) and will send off the ISA transfer forms Tonight.

Significantly more time spent than any other switch but worth the effort for £390 total.

Sorry , not an expert! but if you are hoping for the £120 for switching an a/c then that offer closes the end of the month.
I would think it was worth a phone call- then at least you speak to a person (who will hopefully be helpful!) I can't praise the lady at our branch highly enough as she was just so nice, chatty and totally un-banky!!

Well my card arrived on Saturday with a letter telling me to register online.
    • I go to the website. They want my card number and telephone banking passcode.
    • I don't have a telephone banking passcode so I call the number to set one up.
    • Overseas call centre takes my security questions, which I answer 100% correctly (I have them saved in an encrypted database).
    • The next question is "can you tell me when your account was opened"
This throws me as I have no documents to tell me this. The card just arrived. So I say, "Probably this month or last, but I don't know exactly when you opened it as I sent your signed letter back 4 weeks ago and the next thing I know is your bank card arrives at my door today"!"

There is a long pause and typing at the other end, and then....
"I'm sorry, you have failed to correctly answer all the security questions 100% accurately. I have locked your account and you will have to go into a branch with your ID to proceed further!

I, like many others, am starting to think that £240 is too little for the feeling of impending doom that I am starting to feel with my first experiences of HSBC!

Could be a reason for a "compensation" payment? Amount of aggro etc...worth a try.

I actually had something similar when I was setting up telephone banking. I was sitting in the branch at that time! The question was "Do you have a card on this a/c?" Answer- well a card is ordered, the a/c has been opened today.....so I don't actually have a card- yet. Q was repeated (not from abroad but in broad scots.) Sorry I need the answer. The bank official sitting opposite me was rolling her eyes. I answered the Q in the same way- ordered but not received! After being put on hold I proceeded with the registration. I was about to suggest they speak to a member of HSBC staff who was present!! to confirm I was really me.

(I have had worse experience with Lloyds telephone service when I ended up being questioned by their fraud dept! and I was only trying to set up a SO not closing an a/c!)

Annoying I know, but at least you only got "questioned" about fraud by Lloyds.

If you want to see what Lloyds anti fraud department are capable of doing to innocent customers, check out my other thread here:

Still the classic for me though was being accused of theft by Barclays when my wife rang them to query her missing ISA which she had transferred to them.

As it was a joint mortgage account, the employee at their Indian call centre dug around the accounts and noticed that I had sent a similar (about 15% higher) amount of money to an account 3 weeks earlier. My wife knew of that payment and explained to him that this was a payment from me to my brother for a temporary car loan of about £10K.

He then told my wife that the "only logical explanation" was that I must have got her details, STOLEN her ISA money and sent it to my brother. It was therefore now nothing to do with them, and she should "sternly question me and him about it"!

The actual ISA funds in question mysteriously turned up in her account 3 days later (and 2 weeks late). :rotfl:

  • Still waiting to receive card etc...... I returned the signature form. Might have to go into the branch to get this moving.
