Freeview Box Tuning Help

Well i got the Sagem ITD68( http://direct.tesco.com/q/R.200-7833.aspx)today as i wanted Setanta sports and it was £40 with it included. Picked it up from Tesco and was happy.

Got it home and it took me about 3 hours of on/off trying to set it up to get it to work (not a problem with the box a problem with me:rotfl: ) I have finally got it set up and it seemed the picture was pretty good.

Did a tuning to get the channels and i have a good few missing. They arnt just small channels either. I have these missing:

ITV
ITV2
ITV3
IVT4
C4
E4
FILM4 (and +1)

Now i dont know what to do as i have read the manual and it says some services wont be picked up everywhere but surely these would. ITV is a main broadcaster as is C4. Ive tried to do another tune but it comes up with the same. A strange thing to not is that i can get E4+1 but not E4.

Im at my wits end with it and i just dont understand it.

Can anybody help?

When i carry out a full scan it results in 6 mux's (In communication transmission systems, mux (pronounce muks, sometimes spelled "MUX") is an abbreviation for multiplexing, a device that sends multiple signals on a carrier channel) i receive 88 channels from the 6 mux's i receive. Sometimes not all these are available (bad weather or mux off) . Do you have the correct aerial to obtain all the channels that are obtainable at your location.

Well this is the second freeview box ive had and i picked up all the channels on the other one. I think its more a problem with the box as surely it would be able to pick up ITV channels as every tv in the country can (same with C4)

I wouldnt be that bothered if it was the smaller channels that i dont watch but i do watch film4, the ITVs, C4 & E4.

Ill reset it and see if that does anything.

Did you check availability for your area.

My Mom lives just over the Birmingham boundary in Shirley and she cannot get much on freeview either. All the ITV channels are missing plus channels 4 and 5. She would be able to get E4+1 but not E4. (She's not bothering to get it yet, will wait until more channels are available.) Sounds a bit like you and from your user name I guess you may be from the Birmingham Area (Aston Villa fan?).

You can check availability here. http://www.freeview.co.uk/availability

    Hope that helps you.

Thanks for that TomsMom but ive had a freeview box before and picked up all the channels ive checked avaliablity anyway and this confirms that i should be able to pick them all up.

I think its a problem with the box as it should pick up all the channels even if they freeze or whatever.

Sorry about that avfc, looks like I was typing my post while you were. Shame it wasn't as simple as that, hope you get it sorted.

I think the problem that you have is this; You may well get all channels on another receiver, however some receivers are better than others at pulling in the weak signals, unfortunately the Sagem falls within that category.

The cure, get a different receiver, or get an aerial upgrade.

Would an external arial help this. Ive seen these for about £10-£20 would this make any difference?

Almost certainly yes, you need to check which type is suitable for your location before buying one.

All aerials are not the same.. ;)

The channels available from the Sutton Coldfield transmitter are listed here

It looks as if the mux you are having a problem with has a lower effective power than the others.

The answer is that you really need a decent external aerial for freeview, until the digital switch over when they will turn the wick up.
That gum you like is coming back in style.

Agreed that you need a suitable outdoor aerial but it's not about "turning the wick up" as those two muxes use 64QAM mode, which is simply not as effective but carries more channels. i.e. more revenue for the mux owners.
