farrow & ball undercoat

Been trying to decide on a colour for hallway, and have pretty much settled on Green Ground by F&B in the Modern Emulsion version.
Noticed that the colour card indicates to use White & Light Tones undercoat with Green Ground.
Is the undercoat necessary ? Magnolia is on walls at present, so a pretty light colour to cover..
If the undercoat produces a better finished job, will go with it.
I know F&B is expensive, but i am curious to see how it turns out, last job we did was the kitchen, we copied a F&B colour with Dulux trade diamond Matt. The colour was fine, but the finish seems "chalky" and if you wipe it, you can see where you have wiped even when dry - plus it cost £50 for 2.5l, so even more expensive than the real thing !!!

No undercoat is required for emulsion just apply 2 coats of your finish colour0

I've just painted our kitchen in the exact same colour. Initially I put a coat of dulux matt white underneath (which I was using on the ceiling anyway) but there were parts of the walls where I just went onto the old paint - I can't see any difference between the two so I'd also say just apply.
One thing I did notice though is F&B paint can be difficult to apply as sometimes it won't take to the wall. I'd suggest giving the old surface a good going over with some sugar soap first.0 -
what did you think of the finished colour ?
I got a tester pot and it looks darker than you would think going on the colour chart - but we still like it.0
