...the DFS website says the Hemmingway uses coated leather:

lol! would you believe I was just looking through that!
I know high price ≠ good quality, but I'm equally conscious that a low price sofa is a low price for only a few reasons!0 -
So... guess no one works there huh? :-)0

Nothing to say about the sofa but just wanted to make sure that if you take out the 0% finance option....beware not to get stung for PPI. Make sure they do not include it if you don't want it.

Another thing to watch out for is the leather that the sofa is in. Make sure that the soft leather that the display model is in, is the same leather that is the one that the standard price is for. They should tell you this (and possibly try and upsell) but just in case.
Also check that the leather is dyed all the way through and not just on the surface. I'm pretty sure this is the case with DFS, but worth checking. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Will do, thanks!0 -
I know this is an old thread, but it still may help anyone who googles across this.
I have to agree with the posters who say that this sofa is hard work, and not worth the money. I have owned mine for just over 3 years - and most of that time I was the only one living here and it didn't get a lot of use.
It's now looking very saggy and creased on the seat cushions. They're very heavy to plump - so it is not practical to take them off every day as dfs seem to recommend. And why the heck should you have to?
I also paid extra for stain protection, but I'm highly doubtful that this was even applied. From Day 1, even a little water (and I mean a little) spilt on the cushions did not float, and having followed the instructions on how to deal with minor spills, I just ended up with shadowy patches where the nap would not go in the right direction again.
I'm sure we're all aware that you get what you pay for - but I really think this sofa is an exception to that rule. I would have expected a lot more quality for the money. I thought this was going to be an investment buy (having fallen in love with it on the adverts), but I was wrong!!
As well as the cushion problem, the wooden feet (painted to match the dark leather - they are not dark wood) are scuffed, as is the leather. For a modular sofa whose selling point is flexibility, you expect to be able to move it around a bit.
I am now wondering whether to cut my losses and try to sell on ebay. Average selling price for one in excellent condition seems to be £800, but I cannot pretend that mine is in excellent condition.
So my other option is to see what I can do to redeem the cushions. I'm thinking of having some foam made and adding this to the feathers in an attempt to firm them up. I think the volume of feathers I would need, if I just added feathers, would be way too cost prohibitive.
I have emailed the manufacturer Tetrad tonight to see if they can suggest anything, and to express my disappointment.
All in all the moral of the story is to pick one up from ebay so that you won't resent the outlay too much. It's a fabulous looking sofa (for a few months!), so I'm not saying don't buy it at all - just don't pay full price and don't expect too much of it.0 -
I think the Hemingway is based on the Tetrad Cassius corner unit. http://www.tetrad.co.uk/english/ranges.asp?ID=1&Name=Leather%20Contemporary&Range=lcomp .
Unfortunately, it is very difficult to find an online price and even stores seem to shy away from diplaying a ticket price! I reckon it would still be within budget and I know that when I've bought Tetrad in the past - haggling works.
I have 2 8 year-old Chelsea sofas that have withstood years of abuse from lounging teenagers. In fact, they are so sturdy, I choose to get them re-covered this year rather than replace them."Cheap", "Fast", "Right" -- pick two.0 -
Hiya,
I was just researching putting my DFS sofa on Ebay. Its like new. the 6 pieces consist of a !!!!!!, 2 corners bits and 3 middle bits.
It cost £3400 in total when my other half bought it. Its not my personal taste (he bought it as a surprise present!!) and we are now selling and I'm choosinf this time.
You can have all or some bits if you want. I would say about 100/125 per bit depending on if its corner or middle or !!!!!! etc.

Would like a bit of 'insider' knowledge :-)
Anyone know what the 'floor' (lowest) price is for this sofa? So I have a target to haggle for!
And/or the best way to get a discount? Presumably staff are on commission? [how much?]
The 4y '0%' is nice although just as happy to put it on cashback CC which I would pay off straight away (hopefully!).
Any comments appreciated!
Thanks!0
