DFS Hemingway sofa - anyone work there?

Hi All,

We're thinking about getting the DFS Hemingway URL]http://www.dfsonline.co.uk/product.php?product=2110&cat=160&offset=0&ret_page=cat_product_list.php[/URL

£2,695 on 'sale' at £2,495 ATM

Would like a bit of 'insider' knowledge :-)

Anyone know what the 'floor' (lowest) price is for this sofa? So I have a target to haggle for!

And/or the best way to get a discount? Presumably staff are on commission? [how much?]

The 4y '0%' is nice although just as happy to put it on cashback CC which I would pay off straight away (hopefully!).

Any comments appreciated!

Thanks!

I hope I'm not going to upset you saying this (I really don't want to, but I'd want to know if it was me thinking of buying the couch) but there was a bloke on Cleanaholics who had this sofa, and he said it took him a good 30 mins to fluff up all those cushions every day.

He also said that they had to get extra filling added to the cushions as they really weren't full enough (they had them refilled with something like an extra 25% of filling and even then he said they really could do with some more.)

The listing is for it here, you can watch it on August the 17th:

Yes Pipkin, this couch is very hard work indeed!
We didn't need to have cushions refilled or anything though and it was the most comfortable couch I ever sat on. When we moved we couldn't fit it into our new front room as a corner suite so we sold it on Ebay.

's fine :-) It's hard isn't it - we've been looking for a new sofa for a bout 5 months now! It's the only one that feels comfortable, but will watch the programme as wouldn't have been able to buy it till the weekend anyway.

Yeah, me too..... any ideas? As we've not been able to find anything remotely like it.

Forgot to add off the OP; if anyone knows someone else who does a similar style I'd love to hear about it!

    Serious or joke?!? :-)
  • There are very similar ones new on ebay for well under £1K - I was drooling over them last week. Put 'leather corner group' into the search engine and you should find them.
One is called Columbus, and one is called Belmont.

Few concerns; 1) I need to sit on a sofa before I buy it! Been to DFS's numerous times over months to check we still like this one. 2) to some extent, you get what you pay for? - if I was buying a leather sofa for well under £1k, I'd be concerned about the quality.

    In what way?

The cushions you sit on need to be turned and plumped pretty much every day that's all.
It is hard work to do this with such big cushions and takes some time.

Also the small cushions are filled with feathers and so are always squished up so you have to take them out , plump them and then put them back into the cases is order to keep the shape of them.

Easy, I'm glad I didn't upset you too much.

With reference to quality of leather depending on the price, I'd honestly be careful there - we bought a leather sofa last year and I did a LOT of research on the net before hand and you do not always get what you pay for, the two things (quality and cost) are not always synonymous.

There are many different types of leather used in products, the DFS website says the Hemmingway uses coated leather:
