Some of the big chain hotels that have both city and beach locations do courtesy transport and use of facilities. We have done this with LeMeridien, hotels should be cheaper during Ramadan but the temperature is also still HOT!
I would recommend LeMeridien friday champagne buffett lunch, very popular with the locals (ex-pats!!) and needs to be booked weeks in advance

I'm not really one for champagne brunches etc... neither am I a benidorm loving lager lout...

I'd just like somewhere where we can get up of a morning, go for breakfast in shorts and t-shirt... then go to the beach, or a walk around or laze by the pool... then have a laze in the room or at the bar, get changed into something casual and go out for a relaxed meal, or a mcdonalds (!) or a drink... And do a bit of bartering for fake watches clothes and handbags...

    any recommendations at all?

Try and get a hotel that includes breakfast at least, some are now doing half board and that can be great as most of the beach hotels are a good way from the city in a taxi and buying food in the hotels can be pricey.

Don't assume if the city hotel you chose has a beach hotel that your package will include access to this, many add a charge for this depending on who you book with, Le Meridian do. Likewise breakfast, unless it clearly states you are paying for room and breakfast you will be billed for any breakfasts you have at the end of your stay.

We recently stayed at the Oasis Beach on a half board deal and this sounds like what you are looking for, alternatively the Crowne Plaza, although a bit dated had free access and transport to a beach hotel.

All of the hotels make provision for guests to eat during Ramadan although eating or drinking in public view is not done. The shopping malls change their opening times but some smaller shops will remain open.

a few people have mentioned the oasis beach... does it have a nice pool etc?

Also, what would be a good price for 7 nights during ramadan?
