Mostly from living in a block of flats for several years... Sad fact - we actually chose our current house based (partly) on the fact that the local authority is very progressive as regards recycling and renewable energy :)
    • People not recycling - empty blue bins, with huge bin bags full of plastic bottles and mountains of *fully assembled* cardboard boxes in the black bins meant for residual rubbish
    • The thunderous clatter every Sunday morning as the weekend party people tipped their glass recycling into the blue bins that are festooned in stickers saying 'no glass recycling'!
    • People dumping plastic bags full of glass recycling in the lane next to the nearby bottle bank, which local kids ended up smashing! In fairness, the council could have emptied it more frequently
    • People stealing clothes from the charity recycling bins in the school across the street (although this was as depressing as it was annoying)

    Rant over!

My major recyling peeve is that my family email me things to shop for, then leave every bag for life in the kitchen, not the boot of the car.

I have a stonking collection of Bags For Life, some of which I actually keep for Christmas wrapping (see elsewhere) but an awful lot that I had rather put to the use intended.

What really sets my teeth on edge is when I recall (then infant) sons upbraiding me for using plastic bags at all "don't you care about the planet, mummy?". Now the teenage louts just leave the empties where they lie...

(The stash in the spare wheel gets eroded by 'ha!' & not then refilling)

OH and I have separate shampoo and gels, and separate levels on the rack for each, so we take responsibility for our own.

I buy wads of vest carrier bags off ebay for rubbish so my family do not use the 5 pence (at least) each for onion peelings, and other domestic rubbish. (Teenagers. I'l leave the detail to your imagination.]
These, despite being a nice bright blue, they apparently struggle to see...

Tell me about it! Even worse is my other half's habit of making absolutely no effort to get the last of anything out of a bottle/jar/tin etc. As soon as it gets the slightest bit hard to extract, he throws it away. Eg with baked beans he'll just hold the tin upside down to empty it for a second or two leaving about a quarter of the contents in the tin rather than getting a spoon and scraping it out!

I store my tins upside down. Problem solved!
