She has lost all feeling down one leg, and can't feel her private parts, so only knows when to go to the toilet because of the pain, and she can't tell when she has finished.

The thing is, she has been telling the Dr this who has been awful with her... and telling her that it is Sciatica etc... but it was only when she went to see a different Dr, that they sent her immediately to the hospital.

    Will this feeling come back?

I would suggest she visits her local A&E sooner rather than later. If she's reluctant do do this try and encourage her to call the consultant who's care she is under and speak to him - he can be accessed by calling his secretary. Modern analgesia should go some way to keeping the pain under some kind of control although neuralgic pain is notoriously difficult to treat.

Was the surgery carried out by an orthopaedic or neuro surgeon?

A Neuro surgeon - she went to the specilaist Neuro hospital, the local one refused to MRI her because although a pregnancy test came out negative, the pregnancy hormone was high in her blood.

She was taken by ambulance to the Neurological centre, MRI scanned and operated on that night as an emergency. She had no time to blink before they operated.

She is upset, understandably, and worried about the future.

I wish I could tell her she will be OK and get the feeling back, but nobody knows. It seems severe damage has been done.

Now she has this, will she always have it?? Or will it never come back now that she has had the operation?

She is also frightened, if she IS pregnant, that she wont be able to give birth and/or cope with the new baby.

I do feel so sorry for her. She is possibly depressed too now, which is also undertstandable.
