Claiming back student account bank charges

Hi,
I have been charged in excess of £50 over the period of a year going past my overdraft limit. Has anyone had any experience of claiming back these charges?
I am not too bothered about the charges, but I am eager to deal with this as I am going to close the a/c if they are not paid because RBS are not great with students and there overdraft isnt too competitive (Halifx £2000).
Anyone who has gone through this please reply.
Thanks

It's no different from claiming back charges from a standard current account or credit card, however everything's up in the air at the moment regarding current accounts due to the OFT test cases. Have a look at the relevant forum on here or consumeractiongroup.co.uk.
Also, you can claim them back regardless of whether the account is open or closed, however there is always a small risk that you might lose your overdraft or your account if you claim while it is open (although I didn't have any problems when I claimed back money from RBS).0 -
i'm a student - been one for 5 years and have racked up over £1000 with HSBC and over £500 with Lloyds TSB - they both refunded everything (but without interest) - they said it was a 'goodwill' gesture!...!!!!!!!!!0
