Selling and renting questions.

Hi all
My other half is due some inheritance once the sale of his late grandfathers house completes. First question is, am i right in thinking that his parents estimations are a bit out? The offer on the house is 130k, and they are estimating that the four of them (OH, his brother and their parents) will get abut 25k each once solicitors and estate agents fees are paid, plus the money the parents put in updating it.
I would have thought it'd be closer to 30k or so? They didn't spend more than a couple of grand updating it. Absolutely no more than 5k and probably not even close to that?
Second question - We want to use the money to move back to our home town, which is aproximately 90 miles away. What is the best and most efficient way to find a rental property in this circumstance? I have been really messed around by letting agents in the past and it was bad enough locally, never mind 90 miles away when i have 3 children in tow, But i have no idea of any way of contacting private landlords?
TIA

Depends. There may be inheritance tax to pay, other debts to pay off, loans. There isn't enough information to really gauge it. Estate agent fees could be £2k plus, solicitors £1k or more I suspect 25k each is about right, maybe a little more if you're lucky.
Gumtree is good for finding houses in my area- direct with landlords.
I'd also call letting agents no more than 2 days before you are scheduled to go down for viewings and just get them to line up several which fit your criteria, have a full day of viewings and then you can choose.0 -
Some people will underestimate deliberately (they simply don't know all the costs involved) and then be happy when the money comes through. I prefer that way of thinking. It's someone else's fault.0

How much will inhertance tax be? How will it be paid (if relevant)?0

Sorry,
No inheritence tax. No debts nothing like that. I'm not that bothered in all fairness i just wondered if i was right in thinking they are overestimating. 25k is still a hell of a lot of money for us.
Booksurr - I've emailed a couple of agents but they don't seem capable of answering simple questions.0 -
Is it to be an equal 25% split for 2 grand children and 2 parents?
House offer subtracting:
-Couple of grand for post survey renegotiations
-Couple of grand for updating
-Funeral costs
-Grave costs
-Estate agents
-Solicitors0
