Hi,

We recently had our bedroom renovated which include adding 50mm (12.3mm of which is plasterboard) insulated plasterboard to the outer wall.

The old blinds were removed when the renovating was being carried out. I now have to attach them. What fixings/rawl plugs do I use with these boards?

The screws will go into 2 end brackets and one middle bracket, through the top.

These are the blinds, http://www.wooden-blinds-direct.co.uk/files/guides/sunwoodguide.pdf

Many thanks,
MR

There are various types of plasterboard plugs, and I've not had much luck with any of them over the years! What I've taken to doing is spreading the load by fixing a batten of wood first using a combination of 'no nails' and the screw in plasterboard plugs, then screw the blind fixings to the wood, and all is good so far.

Either that, or remove a piece of plaster board and fix a small block of wood to the 'inner' wall for each blind fixing, using standard wall plugs?

Great idea although I would like to avoid doing that.

I have just noticed the 2 end brackets have holes to the sides. If I used a couple of those rawl plugs to each end do you think that woudl work as, when the blind it lifted it is not pulling the rawl plugs down, if they were at the top, above the blind.

What type of blind? Roller blind should be ok with heavy duty plasterboard fixings.

You could, given that it is only 50 mm thick, drill through your new plasterboard and insulation into the existing wall, put a standard rawl type plug in there and use long screws. Be careful not to tighten too much as you might dent or deform the plasterboard. Batten is my preferred method. I have used the plasterboard fixings - the type that is its own drill - but they only held up the heavy curtains for 14 years before I had to repair!! If there is a gap behind the plasterboard you could use toggle or butterfly fixings and they would hold up the Queen Mary. (Other large ships are available)
