Can anyone help me with the wording of maternity pay?

Hi all,
Still relatively early days for me, but being a bit of a control freak I wanted to check up on maternity policy for my workplace.
I understand the first and last parts fine, but the middle part has slightly confused me.
This is how it is worded:
"You are entitled to Maternity Pay as follows;
- 6 weeks @ 100% salary for the period from (start date) to (6 week end date count).
- 20 weeks’ Occupational Maternity Pay @ 50% salary plus Statutory Maternity Pay for the period from (start date) to (20 week end date count), or 90% of your average earnings if this is less.
- 13 weeks @ Statutory Maternity Pay for the period from (start date) to (13 week end date count).
- The remaining period of Additional Maternity Leave is unpaid."
Can anyone help me clarify the meaning of the middle point?
I am reading it that I would get the higher of the two amounts, is that right?
Thanks in advance

You get 50% of salary plus SMP. This is capped at 90% of your salary.
Some low wage earners would go to say 120% of their normal salary using 50% plus SMP so they say upto 90%Tomorrow is the most important thing in life0 -

Funnily enough, HR weren't exactly helpful!
