White threads in new topsoil

I can see loads of tiny white threads a few inches long in new topsoil.
These threads have a little base that is orange in colour.
I'm presuming these threads are roots for grass (ie ordinary grass and not problem type grass - eg couch grass) and that they are showing up as white because they are now dead.
Is this right?

It depends on which fungus it is - if it is that.
Could you get a photo of what's in the soil to see if it's roots or mycelium?0
