Can I find out if I currently hold insurance? (contents)

This will sound crazy but I do not know if I have home contents cover or not.
Is there a central database I can check? It would have been sometime in February as that was when my last policy expired (for which I have found the paper copy) and I am presuming they don't automatically renew it like they do car insurance?
I recently changed jobs and as a result lost old emails (lesson: use a different email address that won't change). Therefore I can't search through my old emails.
My prev policy was with Budget, but I would have shopped around using comparison websites and may even have bought an online policy with no paperwork (I have in the past done this)... I just cannot remember whether I did or not!
I'm not even 40 years old yet and already show signs of dementia
Thanks

I would contact the company you had last year as you may well have renewed with them. The other thing to do is check your bank statement for that time to see if you can see a payment coming out.Lost my soulmate so life is empty.
I can bear pain myself, he said softly, but I couldna bear yours. That would take more strength than I have -

Autorenewal works exactly the same in Home as it does in Motor.
There is no governmental database like the MID for Home insurance. There is CUE which covers both Home and Motor but it is voluntary and not all insurers use it. It also doesnt have a consumer interface and the only way to get the data is to do a Data Protection Act Subject Access Request for £10.
The easiest way to check is (1) see if your old policy renewed and (2) check bank/ credit card statements covering around your renewal date and look for the payment. If you bought new then it should be up to a few weeks before though payment may not have been taken until a week after inception (though normally it is taken beforehand). For a renewal its quicker to speak to your insurers but if you dont want to for some reason then almost all will charge the renewal premium on or after the renewal date and could be up to a week or two after0
