    forgotmyname, for reasons I don't want to go into (other than that he is still at school), my son isn't able to get a job outside the household at present. He will be working for us to "earn" as much of the car & insurance as possible though!

    Thanks, Ian - that is very helpful. From what I've found on Google, it seems to be more about the registered keeper being the person who gets parking tickets, etc, sent to them. (That's more likely to be me, sailing close to the wind, than him. :o )

    I did notice the lack of difference in premiums for more expensive/slightly more powerful cars when hunting for insurance for my older son. It struck me as bizarre at the time, but it seems to be all about reliability of the driver at this age and what they're doing with the car.
