Sub £500 pc?

Hello. I'm looking for a good pc for my son to do his gaming on. The one recommended to me by pc world is the Lenovo H50 at £449.99

Having very little knowledge of what all the fancy words mean I would be grateful if someone could tell me if it is good value? He has a smart tv so we need everything but the moniter.

you really need to know what games he does/want to play, as this will determine what spec machine you wll need to run them. The second one linked to above will run pretty much any game out at present (albeit at a lower resolution) and the first one will run most current stuff (but graphically will struggle more than the first with the most demanding ones)

What size is the TV? what inputs does it allow? If its a particularly large TV you might need to ensure youve got a graphics card that can handle it.

size of the tv makes no difference to how powerful the graphics card needs to be.

its the resolution that matters.

a 20" tv at 1080p is no different to a 50" tv at 1080p as far as the graphics card is concerned

Gaming PC - forget the CPU, doesn't matter (in summary), all about the graphics card.

An i3, or even an FX6300 will be absolutely fine as long as the graphics card is up to the job.

Building yourself is the best way imo - its fairly simple. The folks at overclockers will flat out spec the entire thing for you with links to add to basket.

And they'll even help you build it if needed - but everything will simply click together.

That way, you'll have a system that can easily be upgraded in 2 years time for a small amount of money.

This depends on what games are actually being played. Some games need more cpu power than others.

many new games have been coming out needing quad core, which would rule the i3 out
