Help Needed I Can't Run Word Or Excel Programs

Hellooo you lovely people on the techie board!


I know this problem was posted on the board this morning, but the reboot answer didn't work for me


Every time I try to open up a word or excel program it tells me there is not enough memory or disk space to run it


Last night I dutifully cleared a load of cack off my laptop to make some space on the hard drive, I managed to gain back 8GB leaving me with 24GB left


I defragmented

I Disk Cleaned up

I Crap Cleaned

I removed unwanted programs and files

I ran a Hijack this log just incase and that came up clean ( all green ticks and safe sites)

I ran spybot and superantispyware, all clean



still word or excel wouldn't work


This morning I discovered I only had 42MB of memory left out of 1024 :eek:

so I thought thats why it probably wasn't working, I've managed to regain half of it back by going through my task manager processes ( now running at 554MB ish)


but I'm still getting the not enough space message when I try and open up word


can anyone help me please cos I am at a bit of a loss

( and its probably something simple I'm missing too)

Try the solution mentioned here: "Not enough memory" error message when you start Word 2000 or Excel 2000. G

Or, OFF97: Cannot Start Word or Excel

I'm no expert, but that HT log looks OK to me.

Have you tried doing what my first link suggests about renaming those files - at least the same ones that also exist in MOE2007 - then running the repair/reinstall wizard? G

according to my search there is no files of that name on my system??


Think I might just have to uninstall and then reinstall and see what happens

Bumpy Bump cos I still need some advice


Did a fresh install of office, got my task manager processes down to the minimum ( thank you Jamesy ) to gain more memory


and word and excel still won't run due to " not enough memory or disk space"


I've now got 24GB spare and my memory is at about 550MB's


word was obviously running on less than that before, so why has it all of a sudden packed up


any help really gratefully recieved
