Normally he'd apply for funding from his country of origin if he isn;t an UK national.

re: bank accounts, it is common for his domestic bank to write a letter of introduction to a 'partner' UK bank.

he probably won't be able to get the account until he is living here and can provide documentation from the university that he is a current student.

it may be worth seeing whether any banks in his home country have 'arrangements' with UK banks for things like paying in cheques.

  • E.U. students are not normally entitled to student loans or grants for maintenance.

However, they are entitled to a tuition fee loan.

They would have to have been resident in the UK for the last 3 years to get more than the tuition fee loan.
