3 didn't cancel contract when requested

Hi,

I rang up 3 & cancelled my contract (with just over a month's notice), so it would stop when the 12-month contract ran out. i asked for cancellation confirmation in writing
Also requested a PAC code.

Didn't get a confirmation of cancellation , so rang them up again.
3 are denying that i ever cancelled. they agree that i rang up on the date i did, but they say i only requested a PAC number without cancelling.

So I wrote them a letter explaining it all, and asked them to write back to me.
They haven't written back to me... but they rang me, and refused to believe that i had cancelled. After 20 mins, i hung up on them.

Now what should i do?

I have cancelled the direct debit in the meantime, as i don't want them to take a 13th months payment.

Any thoughts?

  • The issuing of any PAC will cancel any previous disconnection request. If the PAC is not used then the contract will continue.

Reinstate the DD and then cancel the contract OR request a PAC.

Sorry but if you asked for a PAC and didn't use it your contract won't end. You need to either ask for a PAC and transfer your number or give them 30 days cancellation notice - if you do both the PAC request cancels out the cancellation (so to speak!)

Best bet for cancelling contracts is to ask for a PAC and transfer number to a PAYG sim even if you don't want to keep the number, at least then you know it's been cancelled.

You'll have to pay for another month unfortunately - and if you don't you'll get a default on your account :(
Wondering how to have a life & not rack up more debts...

    hmmm... i didn't realise that.
    thanks for the info.

i asked for a PAC, but they said they couldn't give one yet....
so they haven't cancelled the contract, nor given me a PAC.

looks like i'll have to pay the extra month, based on your info.

i wonder how i re-instate a cancelled Direct Debit!!

If he/she is still within the 12 months contract, won't they only charge for 30 days from the date they receive notice of cancellation?

Will they automatically charge for an extra month even if you have given notice that ends the contract before the month is out?
Well life is harsh, hug me don't reject me.

Had a similar problem with them recently...rang up giving 30 days notice and then rang the day the contract was to end to ask for a payt sims....after various conversations with the operator he came out with they would send me a payt sims but I would still be on contract for an addtional month...After explaining that I was on the last day and had cancelled 30 days earlier the line went quite for about 2 mins before he came back and admitted the operator I had spoken to had not placed the cancelation request....I must have been lucky as they cancelled the contract that day and I didn't even argue with them :P

    Rogerramjet,

Something very similar happened to me. I gave 30 days cancellation notice and moved my number via PAC code 2 days before my 12 month ended. I had already paid up the full final month.

To my surprise I then got a bill for the 13th month. I called them and asked what this was for and they explained that I must give 30 days notice. I told them I had, and that I had actually moved my number 2 days before the complete end of my contract. They said ok that's true but you still have to pay the 13th month. I asked why this was when I had no mobile number with them to use. They said it was company policy.

I told them I wouldn't pay and they sent threatening letters. I returned all the of them to sender. To my knowledge it hasn't hurt my credit rating, but who knows.

All I do know is I won't be going back to 3 as they are really quite crap, not to mention their crap customer service and very poor reception in my area.
