Boiler Service - How Often and ..?

We brought a new house 2 years ago and always rented prior to this. The house has fairly new Valiant boiler, so far we haven't considered servicing it, how often do you need the service, any recommendations (on quality and price)? Any benefits in terms of operations costs as a result of doing servicing.

You're suppose to have it serviced every year and it's recommended to have a gas safety check for appliances too.

Servicing is supposed to be done yearly. If you haven't had it done, then any warranty you had on the boiler is now worthless.

Servicing is unlikely to have any real effect on efficiency, though they might tweak the burner settings if necessary. It's mainly about (a) making sure everything is working properly, and (b) making sure you're not about to be gassed with carbon monoxide from a faulty boiler or flue.
    If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.

OK, thank you. I have installed CO monitor sometime ago so that is not a concern.

I've now checked and it was installed in 2005 and the homeowners pack had 2 years guarantee so I would think that should not be an issue either.

Any recommendations on boiler servicing packs? or it is cheaper to find someone local with good reviews on mybuilder/ratedpeople etc.

When i had my new boiler fitted it came with a 5yr guarantee but if i didn't pay for an annual service the guarantee was void.
I think it's about £65 i pay for the service.

Not sure what a 'boiler servicing pack' is, but don't sign up to one of those expensive monthly maintenance contracts. Just get a local independent CH engineer (look for someone recommended locally if poss), call him in each year before the cold weather starts, and you'll pay £60-90 or thereabouts.

I paid £50 yesterday to my plumber/heating engineer to service my boiler. 1st annual service.

It may be slightly cheaper than average as he is a neighbour so doesn't have to factor in any travel time or cost!

  • Service yearly with gas carbon monoxide so dangerous even with a detector not worth the pennies saved if you don't service try to get it done before it is needed for winter as the engineers will be busy repairing those that have not been maintained and as daft as it seems try to run the heating for an hour a month in the summer to ensure water is circulated through the system etc keeps all the working bits going

15 mins will do and also turn the radiator valves (TRV) to max to stop them sticking as they don't automatically move in the summer.
Do you want your money back, and a bit more, search for 'money claim online' - They don't like it up 'em Captain Mainwaring
