Ovo >>> Q. When is a Smart Meter not a Smart Meter? A, When it's a Dumb Meter.

Ovo "I have spoken with our Smart Team and have been advised that as your Smart meters will work as ordinary meters (dumb meters). They will still work as meters, simply pres '9' for a reading and you will receive a reading which you can enter to us as you did before."
Great. I took a day off work to have Smart Meters installed and received Dumb Meters.
That's a smart Smart Team they have at Ovo.
Nor can I enter meter readings as I did before because My Ovo states "No need to give us meter reads as you have a smart meter". But I have a Dumb Meter, do I not?

Probably grounds to have it removed free of charge.I have heard that there will be a charge to remove the meter if you want to switch supplier and go to the much cheaper option of a credit meter. Other suppliers do not support that meter , the Liberty Secure, apart from Utilita0

The Ovo argument is that I started off with dumb meters and I still have dumb meters. So what am I complaining about?
Should I move supplier, presumably the new supplier would replace the "smart meters" (that are actually dumb meters) by their smart meters.
My fundamental question to Ovo (should they read this) is: can their Smart Team get round to my house quickly and make my dumb meters start?I have osteoarthritis in my hands so I speak my messages into a microphone using Dragon. Some people make "typos" but I often make "speakos".0 -

They install the meter then order the HUD that you plug into your router - until the HUD arrives you have a dumb meter.
That's what happened with us anyway0 -
none of the main suppliers can support the Liberty meter, smart or dumb, and there will be a charge to rid yourself of their meter. It was just something I read on another forum but someone was charged approx £100. Presumably you went for Ovos smart meter because it could be conveniently topped up and you could see other info not available on a dumb meter. .Instead you get a bog standard meter and are chained to Ovo...although if you re staying on prepay, Ovo tariffs are nt bad0

The device is called a Smart Gateway. It plugs into the router. Unfortunately, it will not connect to My Ovo. I suspect that a Smart Gateway will not work with a Dumb Meter. I have written to smartproducts@ovoenergy.com to get an answer. The Smart Meter does not connect to the Ovo server via the 3G route.I have osteoarthritis in my hands so I speak my messages into a microphone using Dragon. I liked the Ovo Smart Meter because it offered monitoring via the Smart Gateway. I was attracted to this proposition. Unfortunately, are Smart Meter are designated Dumb Meters (Ovo's expression) and the Smart Gateway does nothing in consequence.
I will update if Ovo can sort this out.I have osteoarthritis in my hands so I speak my messages into a microphone using Dragon. Some people make "typos" but I often make "speakos".0
