Found old Barclays safety deposit key - any ideas what to do next?

Hello,
My grandfather died about 20 years ago and only recently have my parents found an old safety deposit key for Barclays bank when moving some of his belongings.
It has a keyring attached to it with the Barclays logo, with a freepost address to drop keys into if found, and a phone number. The number does still connect to Barclays 'lost and stolen cards', though when ringing Barclays to discuss my parents were told they don't use safety deposit boxes anymore and weren't able to help.
Is there anything else we could do to track this? My grandfather did used to talk about having some valuables, and there is an unique number/ID on the key itself, so naturally we are curious to look into this regardless of the outcome!
Any advice would be appreicated.
Thanks

potentially go into a branch. do you know what branch of barclays he used to use? (or have a good guess at) Failing that then write them a letter.
According to an old article i read it says
"Barclays, for example, has started withdrawing the boxes from branches and they’ll all be gone by the end of the year. Barclays has written to customers and given them six months to clear out the boxes."

Thank you for the advice and link
Unfortunately it isn't looking hopeful.
I approached Barclays again via email and received a reply, asking me to phone a different telephone number to discuss my grandfathers deposit with the Bereavement team. Unfortunatley they said they only keep those records for 6 years and couldn't assist with our query. I'll definitely go into the branch with the key itself though!0
