Capital One - Unreasonable Evidence

I recently cancelled a credit card with Capital One and they sent me a letter confirming they were cancelling the Payment Protection which prompted me to send a claim for PPI. They have sent me a questionnaire to complete, however they are asking for evidence of my contract of employment from 1999 to confirm my employer would have paid me for being off sick for 12 months. As this is 4 jobs and over 15 years ago I'm not sure if I still have it. It seems unreasonable of them to expect me to product this after all this time. The company also does not exist any more.

I'm sure someone will be along soon with a more formal answer but what you're suggesting is that you expect them to hold records but for you to have no responsibility ?
If you want repayment you're likely to have to put some work in and have proof of your argument/claims0 -

Spot on.
They're unlikely to pay out without having something to show they should, as potentially if the employer wouldn't have paid, then the policy (probably) wouldn't have been missold.💙💛 💔0 -

They may feel it's unreasonable of you to suddenly ask for your money back after 15 years.0 -
You could be telling lies. It is not uncommon for firms to request evidence to support your allegations. It is allowed. Most firms have a database of the major employers and their benefits. So, evidence tends to asked with smaller companies. Especially when the smaller ones tend not to have any or at best minimal sickness benefits.
You can use your own records to supply that information. i.e. give them a copy of your contract of employment for the period, assuming you kept them.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). I would send what info I had and if you don't have it they will either have to take your word or approach the employer themselves.
Capital one turned my claim down, but the FOS upheld (took years though).
