Grass strimmer for a hand-held drill?

We have a long thin garden and in a few places the grass grows up against walls and in places where the mower won't go.
I've looked at proper grass strimmers and see that they are quite expensive for petrol or cordless ones and those with a cord wouldn't reach the end of the garden. Plus, we also have limited storage space for tools.
Which got me thinking...surely they're only the same as drills with a long extension. Is there an attachment I could buy for my hand-held drill that could do the job? Just with me leaning over a bit?
Thanks in advance.

I'm not sure, but I wouldn't advise it if there were one available. Strimming throws out lots of hard sharp bits and pieces you wouldn't want flying into your face. Just strimming in shorts can hurt!
I once hit a screw that flew half the length of the garden, through the patio doors and narrowly missed my husbands head by inches as he was standing at the kitchen sink. One in a million chance of that happening I know, but even so you wouldn't have wanted that screw in your face.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0 -
A drill isn't the right tool for the job, typical max drill rpm is around 2,000 , average strimmer is about 10,000 rpm.
It will take forever to cut anything, if it even cuts at all.0 -
look / ask on local gumtree, freecycle etc, for a strimmer!breathe in, breathe out- You're alive! Everything else is a bonus, right? RIGHT??0

If you find something to do this, make sure you are filming - you're quite likely to make 250 quid from you've been framed, or become an instant youtube sensation!0

Right we are - point taken.
Shows that what I thought was good idea clearly wasn't. Like many of my good ideas!0 -

Have you considered an extension cord? If its only a small amount then you could get a cheap and basic strimmer that would hardly take any space...

As said a drill wouldn't be the right thing at all (and would likely have terrible battery life), and I've never in my life seen such an attachment, I've seen all sorts of other ones, but never a strimmer.
If you look round you can pick up a petrol strimmer from about £60 new, especially towards the end of the season, otherwise as has been said either a cheap mains one an an extension cord (and RCD!) will likely be about £40ish.
B&Q are currently doing an 18v nicad cordless trimmer for about £30 but I suspect the battery may not have much oomph.0
