Extending USA Visa`s????

Dear All,

This may be a little bit specific, but any help would be great.
Im due to go out to LA at the start of June, and my work Visa will allow me to work 4 weeks either side of my contract - giving me only until Sept 16th.

Does anyone have any experience of extending their visa, or what happens if you overstay your welcome!!!?

Ideally i would like to stay for several months more, til around feb time.

Please help if you can!

JH

Not sure how easy it will be to extend once you are there. Difficult I would imagine unless your employer can demonstrate that the extension has only become necessary whilst you were already there. Otherwise they will think you were trying to pull a fast one when you originally applied.

If you overstay a VISA they will not be happy bunny's. Chances are you will never be able to use the Visa Waiver programme as a tourist and may be refused admission completely. Previousy you may have got away with this as the logistics of keeping track of everyone's coming and goig's was difficult. However, with the new machine readable passports that are scanned in as well as the fingerprinting and photographing of all entering the US forget it.

Contact the US embassy here I'm sure they'll be able to help and give you the correct information.

They'll say if you know you want to stay till February and have a legitimate business reason, then why did you not request this in the first place. They are very suspicious people.

If you are going to do this though, contact US Embassy and request a revsion to your Visa until February and hope they are sympathetic to your request. As long as you can convince them you are bone fide it should not be a probelm. Do not try and con tem when you get there as you will only cause future problems should you ever wish to return.
