Do I need to add my middle name to Experian as an alias?

I joined Experian Credit Expert this evening, all the accounts that I expected to be there are showing up but when I was clicking on the information symbols for each section it said about adding middle names as an alias name.

Experian shows my name as 'John Smith', my full name is 'John Ryan Smith' I'm sure when I applied for some of the credit card accounts I would have put my middle name on the application but on the front of the cards is just 'John Smith'.

I'm applying for a mortgage soon and would like to see when the credit checks are performed, otherwise it's pointless paying the £15 to see any changes in my report!

The mortgage will be applied for in my full name: 'John Ryan Smith' as I know you have to put middle names on the application, does anyone know whether my Experian report will pick up on these searches, given that my middle name doesn't appear on Experian?

I just checked one of my credit card statements and this has 'John R Smith' as the name on the statement yet this DOES show on the Experian report, which the Experian FAQ I've read suggests would not happen - any ideas?!

    Hi John,

It's always a good idea to check your credit report if you are planning on going for a mortgage!

You wouldn't need to add an alias to your report for a middle name as our systems will pick up any information with or without a middle name and include this when you view your report.

The only time that this may not be the case is if information was recorded with a different middle name to one supplied in a CreditExpert application.

In regard to the missing account, it may be that the company concerned does not supply information to us, or it could be an issue with the format of address that it is recorded under.

If you email your details (name, DOB, address) to me I will be happy to get this checked for you.

    Kind Regards
    Neil

  • Thanks, that's good to know as when you click on the 'I' next to alias it says to add any names you've been known by and although Experian has my account details as John Smith my full name is John Ryan Smith.

There aren't any 'missing' accounts, as in my OP everything I was expecting to see was there - it's just the FAQ implied any account using my full name including middle name wouldn't show up.

PS I have used John Smith as an example, that's not really my name!

You wont need to pay £15 a month for Credit Expert either. You can order a hard copy on an ad hoc basis for £2 a time.

I definitely agree with this. £15 a month to credit expert is £15 down the drain. You can also look at your Noddle account for free, although it is always best to get your reports from all three agencies if you are making an application for credit and want to see the full current picture of your accounts.

    Good luck.
