Security suite/email question

Options
I have just found out that my McAfee subscription has expired, so I'm looking at Steganos, Kapersky or NOD32 suites instead. I have no clue about what exactly I need, hence me wanting the suite thing to save faffing about and worry!

This is probably an embarassing question...but does it matter that I don't use Outlook for email? I have free fs.net mail which I access through Orange, and Madasafish email, I have never used Outlook and it's not set up properly to use. Will this affect the protection I'll get from these all in one packages does anyone know, please? Lastly, can anyone recommend the best place to buy Steganos/Kapersky/NOD32?

TIA

Lucy

    Hi Lucy,
I don't see why you are looking at Buying antivirus, this site is full of advice on FREE antivirus that works just as well, Personally I have used AVG Free without problem for the past 4 years, See http://free.grisoft.com/doc/2/ for details, This will work with your email as you don't download emails onto your PC it will work fine, should you want to use Outlook in the future AVG will scan your emails for viruses etc. Probably others will come on with their choice of free antivirus soon. hth. I used to use AVG but I do find NOD32 better and worth the money, it does seem better at picking up trojans on websites than AVG. I just bought a licence for NOD32 straight from their site. I'm not sure you're going to get it cheaper anywhere else. Don't know about the steganos/kaspersky pricing and how third party retailers compare to the publishers' own sites.

Decent commercial software, like the ones you mention, will always do better than free versions, & though NOD32 is good, it is only an AV program. If you're looking for a suite, I can highly recommend Kaspersky as being easy to use & very effective (I understand Steganos uses the same AV engine but know little else about it). It's actually cheaper to buy it from PCWorld at the moment than downloading from the Kaspersky site - single licence suite is £25, 3 licence is only £30!

If I was going to purchase a product, I would do so via their website. That would ensure that I received the latest version from the beginning. Version 7 is the latest.
