What if the end of the month (DD) falls on a Saturday & so rolls into the next month (so you didn't pay it off that month)?

The 'month' in this case refers to a statement month and not, necessarily, a calendar month.

Typically a CC billing cycle will follow a sequence where the 'payment due date' is 21-days after the statement is produced. Now if your statement is produced late in the month, say the 15th, then the due date would be in the next calendar month but in the same statement month.

If the 'payment due date' is a non-banking day then some may move it earlier, e.g. from Saturday to the Friday, and others may collect the DD on the Monday. Your statement will tell you the date.

Amex do offer a card paying 5% cashback during first 3 months.

Ah yes, of course. Sorry I confused it with interest paying accounts.

Have you already read the CC article I linked to? Took me a couple of weeks to get to grips with it when I first came across it.

Your article link is broken, sends to the homepage of the CC section.

Oh yeah, I was only looking at a CC for cashback (3% fuel)...and an alternative to using halifax CA

That was deliberate as I think you should be reading the whole section, and all the links within it.

    2. Only 1 being mentioned as better is American Express but only pays 5% for a few months

    1. As the man said - payment by DD eliminates that particular hazard.

    2. I was referring to the interest rate paid on the Current Account - which is beaten by Nationwide Flex Direct, Club Lloyds and TSB Classic Plus.

All they've done is make me revert to my previous view of not needing a CC:
    - I have no debts to transfer
    - I like foreign currency on the rare occassions I go on holdiay
    - The freebies suck (a plane ticket excluding taxes is definitely not free)
    - Additional credit checks
    - Stoozing barely seems worth the hassle as I only spend £200-400/month cash (the rest is DDs/mortgage)

Think I'll stick with Lloyds-TSB-Halifax (online payments as low balance) + 1 other (to hide money chain) for now.

If you read the entire CC section, you will come across other benefits. Such as Section 75 protection.

That's the only benefit other than some cashback & only applies above £100. Most of my purchases are below this. The ones that aren't are cash payments or from major companies (Sony level)
