Compared to the usual HPC bile and vitriol, the thread is nothing out of the ordinary I suppose.

    This post made me smile.
    Person: "why dont you buy"
Me: "cos i dont want to"
    Person: "why dont you"
Me "are you selling your house?"
Person "no, why do you ask"
Me: "just interested in why you want me to buy, thought you had something to sell"
Person "but your paying someone elses mortgage"
Me: how much did your broken boiler cost to repair? Or another out of the blue repair bill

    They then normally shut up
Still, after 10+ years, the boiler argument is as alive as ever. :rotfl:
Don't blame me, I voted Remain.

It is certainly strange how some of them don't seem to realise that they not only pay the mortgage interest, they also pay for the maintenance (and other) costs too. Do they really think that property investors pay for the maintenance with money that hasn't come from the rent? I think the answer has to be that they simply do not think things through, and they only look at the initial profits. The very early years might be a loss leader, with no initial profit, mine were not initially profitable back in the early 90's. I started out only almost covering costs, but I expected rental growth would come, back in those days inflation was in double digits.

Yes it always is, but you can get a new boiler for about £800

so saving over ten years is at least £6 a month, :rotfl:

I think you'll have to budget a bit (lot) more than that.

We cannot possibly be talking about the same thing here, i.e. a new combination boiler, including installation (and disposal of old)?

If so, I'd certainly like to know who he uses to install them, but he can't possibly be including installation at that price.

EDIT: I usually also get a powerflush done when I replace a boiler.

Had to change my boiler a couple of years ago and going from a gravity feed non condensing boiler to pumped condensing boiler cost a lot more than that. Mind you it was over 30 years old.

Yeah the older ones had less to go wrong with them, so they tended to last a long time. The oldest one that we have is actually in our home, it isn't a combination boiler and British Gas have told us (during an annual service) that they might not be able to get parts for it, if it develops a fault. But it just keeps going (for now).
