Nothing new. ALL prepacked vegetables and fruit bar a few items always cost more prepacked.
You have that completely the wrong way round. Very few items cost more prepacked. Bananas are the only item I can think of that are regularly significantly overpriced when prepacked.
  • Maybe it is where you live or where you shop, it happens but is rare that pre-packaged are cheaper where I live. I always check though, ever time without fail as I check everything I buy that way that way. (food-wise that is :D)

Yeah a 1kg bag of carrots may be cheaper than loose carrots, but if you only want 1 or 2 carrots for a recipe, then buying loose is cheaper. Why buy the bag if it is just going to sit and rot at home unused.

Carrots never get the chance to rot in my house. I eat at least a kilo a week!

But plenty people do just buy a few, same with other loose stuff like onions and baking potatoes etc.
