is it wise to consolidate debts?

  • Hello,
No No No to consolidation, from experience - read my signature, that is the result following my last consolidation a year ago, yeah it's not a huge amount but it's debt we can't afford, what everyone else has said before me you don't learn the lesson of overspending by consolidation. I (until my lightbulb moment) overspent, I'm still trying to tame the demon and it is't easy I can tell you. Until you can control your overspending and to live within your means, consolidation is a bad idea, Try snowballing like it has been suggested, you can be surprised how much money you can save by doing this, alongside good old bugeting. Good luck!

The SOA might be a little different from a normal one if you are still in Sweden :) But post it anyhow and people might still be abot to apply some UK stuff to it...
Or those of us who are scandi by birth might be able to come up with a few ideas ;)
Well done you for digging your heels in! My OH is gradually coming round to the limitations of our finances - lord only knows his ex taught him some damned stupid things about spending money like it was going out of fashion! New (brand new) cars every year - BOTH of them! Buy expensive cottage to do up - made a loss on it.
Now I've had to re-educate him but he's getting it slowly... thank goodness I love him and didn't pick him for his money lol! It took some doing when we first got together to get him to fess up to all he owed... in fact I think it took me near on 18 months if not longer :)
    Men... love 'em really...

On a different note, how are you getting on with Swedish food? :)

If the business plan (and is there really a proper one all costed out or is it what he 'think' will work, without any research into the area etc), is for when you return to the UK, then why does he need a bigger car now? Why does this money have to be secured on your property NOW? Wasn't the point of you going to Sweden to save your house from being reposessed? So why does he now want to jeopardise it again. Please don't get rail roaded into this.
