sickness benefit

Don't know if this has been asked before. My neighbour wont sign on for work as she has conned her doctor into signing her off for sickness benefit with depression. She openly admits to me there is nothing wrong with her. She is also claiming child tax credits, Is she entitled to this? She has not worked for over twenty years and has an 8 year old.

She's not going to be conning her own doctor, he may have signed her off origionally but if she hasn't worked for 20yrs she must have been sent by the Dwp to one of their (atos) doctors.

You won't get anywhere though, hard to prove she isn't depressed if you aren't her doctor

Maybe she "admits" to you that there is nothing wrong with her because she doesn't want busybody neighbours gossiping about the state of her mental health?

That's not necessarily true - a good number of IB claimants who were claiming due to mental health problems were transferred to ESA without a face to face assessment. An even higher number will have been on long term IB without face to face assessment. It's quite possible the lady in question has never been assessed by anything more than medical reports.
  • Well Woodbine, I know she conned her doctor, she had an assessment with DWP doctor and went to her doc for letter and pills to "prove " she was ill . She is living with an 88 year old "partner" who pays her rent and council tax so she doesn't have to claim. Yes I have enough evidence to inform on her, I don't need your permission. She hasn't ever worked because she's always been one step ahead of the system, although even now she does cash in hand jobs. .

Well if she is getting her rent and ct paid by her 'partner' at least she isn't claiming for that.

You don't have evidence, you cannot possibly have hard evidence so you should just butt out and mind your own business.

you talk with her, be friendly with her, chat etc.....

I wonder if she realises what a hypocrite you are.....

Yes, she is entitled to child tax credit if her income is below thw upper limit for her circumstances.

She will probably also be entitled to child benefit.
