Low value small claims

Hi
I started a claim in the small claims process last October , for a £300 carpet , long story short , i have finally had papers through from the local court , regarding mediation, which is great , but the court requires another £25 fee
I thought the £25 fee i paid to process and do the claim in the first place was the only fee payable?
Just feels , although were talking small amounts , that £50 to pursue a £300 claim is just throwing good money after bad?
is it correct to have to pay again once the relevant court takes over from money claim online?
Thanks

From MSE's Small Claims Court guide:You do pay a fee upfront. But if you win, it won't cost you anything as you'll get the fees back. If you lose, you don't - so be realistic with your initial claim.
£25 - £410 Initial claim fee - to start your claim (when done online).
£40 Court allocation fee - to get the claim to the court (if claim is over £1,500).
£25 - £325 Hearing fee - paid if and when your case gets to court (when done online).
Or if you would prefer, see the Government website.0 -
Gets added t9o the claim value though - if you win0

If you win and the company still exists/ has assets to pay etc then the fees get added to the claim. Similarly if you have to get court ordered bailiffs to try and enforce the debt then their fees also get added.
The problem is if you dont win or the company decides to liquidate or make itself insolvent etc you can indeed be throwing good money after bad.
Insurers approach these types of decision on a very economical basis where as private individuals tend to be more about the principle. Only you can decide what the odds are of it going your way/ you getting your money back and how much just having your day in court is worth to you.0
