WHAT CAN MY 16 YR OLD GRANDSON CLAIM.Hi

Hi,my husband and myself are on benifits and our grandson who lives with us has just left school.He has just had an operation to fit a frame to lenghten one of his legs and will have this on for 8 mnths or more.Therefore he is unable to work or go to college as the frame makes it almost impossible to walk and needs help with almost everything. I wanted to know what benifits he would be entitled to as child benifit and income support for him stops in Sept.

In addition to claiming IS, he also needs to claim IB ( but won't be entitled to IB because he won't have paid any National Insurance).
After 28 weeks/196 days of sickness, he would qualify for 'IB in Youth' (IBY). He should claim IBY on form IBY22 at 23 weeks of sickness which would then be payable at £61.35pw for the next 28 weeks.
After 3 months of disability, he should claim DLA by ringing 0845 123456 to get form DLA1.
