It's very difficult to comment on proposals that are yet to be announced,
but, at the very least, salaries will need to be increased to 'fill the gap'
Then that will also bring it's own problems I suppose...0 -

The only thing is we usually argue over whether it should be in DT :rotfl:0 -
Tax credits is - in many cases - more general than UC.
UC migration is allegedly happening soon.
Reducing TC rates means that the step over onto UC will be smoother, and that people moving onto UC from TC will not be paid what they would now for a transitional period, but the lower rate, so will have savings going forward.0 -
It's a long time coming. People on tax credits can have large savings (they are not counted), buy to let mortgages, capital in excess of anything most workers can have. In addition they only need to work very part time even doing self employment with no income. By this I mean Avon, eBay and hobby businesses which will never make true profit - this then exempts them from looking for work and the benefit cap which will most certainly be lowered.
They won't cut TC ie remove them but they will start making people actually work to gain these. I firmly expect the workers to be part of the cap very soon.Tomorrow is the most important thing in life0 -

The only exception would be to those who are disabled or have other caring responsibilities.
I agree in principle, although, of course, they may not work anywhere near their children's primary school and so 20 hours per week work may be more reasonable, to give them tome to pick up their children. Even this would be rushed by public transport. Please be polite to OPs and remember this is a site for Claimants and Appellants to seek redress against their bank, ex-boss or retailer. If they wanted morality or the view of the IoD or Bank they'd ask them.0 -
Some people pay tax from their wages and get it back via tax credits, it's better to not pay the tax in the first place both for the person benefitting from it and from a cost of administration of it point of view.
At the moment there are people playing the system working minimum hours to get it topped up to more than I get for working a well paid job full time and I am paying lots of tax and NI.
Companies who rely on government subsidies to top up low wages need to be paying realistic amounts to their workers it's not the tax payers job to top up anyone's income from working for a big profitable company.
Some people seem to see this as just an attack on people on low wages but if you read what is being said it's a reasonable thing to do.0 -
I posted several posts before the election warning people that id they voted Tory your tax credits are as good as gone.
Despite any promises.
I was lambasted from pillar to post and told to go away and read the "pledges"
Well here you go.
Exactly as predicted.
You work and need tax credits then in the eyes of the tories you are a benefit scrounger no different from those out of work.
It was two choice election for many working folk.

TBH its not 'all of a sudden', when the tories were elected by democratic vote on 7th May 15, we all new that benefit cuts were going to be coming...and probably be announced on the 8th July 15.
Thats 2 months notice.without cuts too.Plan: [STRIKE]Finish off paying the remainder of my debts[/STRIKE].

Yes, but that's largely why they got in.0 -
He can do it because he was voted in. They were upfront about cutting 12bn from benefits, so what did people expect?Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.0
