No claims held to ransom

I have accrued over the years at least 5 years no claims bonus and also my fair share of money shortfalls. A couple of years ago I was unable to pay the final installment on my premiums for my car insurance and the company then withheld my NCB. This was for 5 years and so cost me a fortune to get new insurance. Subsequently I have had all sorts of problems with my NCB and although I have the previous 4 years no claims, it seems that because I have had insurance in the meantime, It is invalid due to lack of consecutivity for want of a better word. ie :- As there was a gap where I was insured but unable to use the NCB from before, insurance companies will not take any account of it. Even though I am sure there is a database for insurance companies to check to see if I have claimed at all, it seems the insurance companies won't take account of the NCB as in their words " there is a gap between the pevious 4 years( maybe 5) and now. Can the company be right to hold my NCB to ransom like this ?
Please ...any advice will be leapt upon as this is becoming now ridiculously expensive to get insurance.

Even if they cannot do it legally they could put it down as a mistake by the call centre, but by the time you complain and they sort it you could be many months down the line.
Might be easier to settle the final installment and then make a formal complaint.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
It would have been a lot cheaper to have paid the money you owe and then have maximum no claims bonus to use on your new policy.
Why on earth did you not do this?0 -
I am confused about your query/ statement.
Seems to say you had 5 years NCD but had to void the policy. You then declared a cancelled policy for non-payment and 0 years NCD and bought a new policy.
This was about 3 years ago and so assuming you've had no accidents and have paid all your other policies in full then you have 3 years NCD and 1 cancelled policy to be declaring.
What issue are you having?0
