Company card with individual liability

You could take the card and not use it unless reminded to do so.billbennett wrote: »Surely the first step would be to speak with the HR department and ask them to address your concerns?
I would suggest you think very carefully before doing this - HR are never your friend no matter how nice they seem. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
All here have company cards which we are expected to use for expenses, then put in an expense claim, which gets paid back to us and then we have to pay the card company.
It was made very clear to us when the cards were issued that all liability was with the company, and not individual employees. Also there is no interest charged on the card, so if for some reason it takes 6/8/10 weeks to put in a claim and for it to be paid this is not a problem.
There is a big plus in that any expenditure put on that card automatically gets into the expense system and we just have to assign it to the correct project. There has also never been any problem if for some reason I've had to use a different card,My postings reflect my lifetime's experience and my opinion. We had both "corporate cards" and "spending cards" which were the same - the former is for personal expenses like hotels, planes etc where as the other was for departmental/company things like stationary, market research, design agencies etc.
As others have said, the benefit to the company was all the data goes into the system very quickly and very accurately. Similarly they had negotiated some discounts/ rebates with some merchants and these were done automatically given the granularity of data.
The one issue we did have was that the spending cards were linked to a single cost centre and so the likes of our MD's PA had about 20 of the cards which needless to say were identical other than the card number.
The AmEx corporate card I had involved a CRA ID check but no credit check. I had to pay it off each month but the company were jointly liable for the debt. Nothing was reported to the CRAs on a monthly basis.0 -
A similar thing happened at our company, and we went from personal CC to a company Amex. Turns out that HQ had signed up to a new expenses reporting system, and in the small print we all had to be issued with Amex CC.
It is hit and miss the places which will accept Amex, so most people still use personal cards for company use. Doesn't seem to cause any problems.0
