Flight to Bangkok over Xmas period

Planning to travel to BKK on around 13 December, returning around 27 December (as long as we are back here for new years eve). May look at possibility at travelling one up from economy, and non stop only. Know this is peak but the departure date I think is slightly off peak? Great to have a starting point on this! Thank you!

Thai, BA & Qantas boost their prices up from 10 Dec.

However, EVA Air (Direct - I think they are great) have a seat sale on until Wednesday, and availability if you go out one day earlier (12th), and checking who can sell it - Airline Network have this special (Expedia & Ebookers didn't)
at £469 per person including prepayable taxes.

At this price I wouldn't bother wasting time elsewhere, especially for these dates, on a direct airline.

If you do the search it initially says EVA £744, then when you click on the EVA link it says: Good news! The fare price of £744 has been reduced to £469

Thank you for that, an amazing fare but not sure if daughter can leave school two days early... also enhanced economy - where can I find any discounts? I see Travelbag are also doing the eva offer.

Any reason why you would prefer Enhanced Economy? The new EVA Economy seats are much improved.

I went out to shanghai last october with ba in economy. I was in pretty bad shape when I arrived and vowed not to travel such distance in Y class. But that was BA!
  • Enhanced economy is so much better. Also have a look at sas as they are usually competitively priced for enhanced economy to bangkok. I would never fly long haul in economy either no matter which airline it was.

    Why, are you overweight?

Personally, I don't think it's worth the extra £350 or so to fly in EVA Elite. Their new Elite seating is generally regarded as less comfortable than their original Evergreen Deluxe. Still, if the extra space is necessary, go for it. The only other possibility is BA World Traveller Plus. Too expensive.

Did you noticed the OP's request for non stop only?
  • N o I am not overweight. I just like the 2 seats together and the extra room.
And sas is nonstop from London to BKK. Well it certainly has been when I've been on it unless it has changed recently.

Did you fly on their codeshare or something? SAS goes via Copenhagen?

But I agree - i'm 6ft6, Premium Economy / Enhanced Economy / Elite or whatever is a given for long-haul. I've flown airlines so bad (Czech spring to mind) that my knees jam in the seats in front without being able to put my feet on the ground.
  • I do apologise. I travel so much I get confused.
We flew from edinburgh to Copenhagen then on to bangkok
but to me that is sort of direct as we have to fly to Heathrow otherwise and then on to Bkk.
My memory must be failing in my old age!
But good price never the less usually.
Obviously if you live in the london area not a good flight but we always need 2 flights anyway and I always think of the long haul bit as direct!

Aha! BA Economy :) 31" seat pitch and tiny seat back TV. Functional crew. ;)

Eva Economy is closer to a 34" seat pitch with a huge seat back screen and on demand video.
Very helpful crew. Press the assistance button and they leave whatever they are doing immediately to attend.

Their new 777-300s fly this route, so that explains the new seating arrangements, Economy and Elite, rather than the old Economy with no seat back screen and Evergreen Deluxe.

So the differences between the two on this route are much reduced in number.

BA and Thai Economy I would not recommend. Thai has a good seat pitch, but no entertainment system to speak of(unless that has changed recently).

So my recommendations are thus(with Moneysaving in mind), in order of preference; EVA Economy, EVA Elite, BA World Traveller Plus, Thai Economy, BA Economy.

Some of the arab airlines have similar standards to EVA Economy, combined with short stopover times. This can be useful if you aren't too keen on long flights and would like to stretch your legs for a bit.
    Etihad are good.
