Very high bill/something wrong with gas meter?
I've never had gas before so I'm hoping someone can help me make sense of this as I've no real comprehension of how big a 'unit' of gas is and what reasonable usage might look like.
I had a new gas combi boiler put into my vacant property which is undergoing renovation, completed 29th December 2014.
Meter reading on 19th January 2015: 03563
Meter reading this morning: 04021
I had the heating on for approximately 1 week in the dead of winter to stop any pipes freezing - admittedly the thermostat did go a bit bezerk and it was on 20 degrees for a week.
Plugged my meter reading into SSE's online account today - £250 bill
Have I really used that much gas?
PS. outside that week's use, the boiler has literally been unplugged from the electric supply.

I fear that you have. 458C3Ms equates roughly to 5130kWhs of gas. That amount of consumption would have cost me about £160 plus the daily standing charge so £250 is in the right ball-park. The only other possibility is that you have a leak between the meter and the new boiler which I suspect is unlikely. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. If they are both actual meter readings,no estimates that is what you have used. Just make sure you are not on a standard/variable tariff as the one year fixed deals paid by direct debit are much cheaper.0

Hi
They are actual readings - I was just trying to establish if they were reasonable in view of the 'use' - i.e. 1 week, or is there a problem with the meter/an outside leak etc. Wishful thinking perhaps!0 -
Meter does not misread an outside leak internal gas leak well yes its gas you are using and metered .
Vacant property guess you are on an expensive standard tariff .0
