Add your feedback on Hassle Free Boilers... (any good??)

Hi there,
the time has come once again to upgrade my gas boiler (well our current boiler has lasted 7.5 years so far, so not bad going)...

but from my research it seems the newer so called 'a-rated' boilers can make quite a big dent in the old gas bill - which is why I am looking to upgrade

A friend mentioned Hassle Free Boilers and said that they were doing some great deals... being the underdog against British Gas means they have to do that I guess.

Anywho... does anybody have any experience with Hassle Free?

would love to know.

I have never heard of hassle free boilers, so can't comment on them, but I suspect you will be disappointed in any potential gas bill savings.
You may be lucky and improve efficiency by 10%, on an average bill this may be £50 per year.
Changeover may be around £2,000 so you will be 40 years before you break even on the cost.
My boiler is 17 years old, and still working fine and wouldn't consider changing to save minimally on running costs.
  • Thanks, you make a great point,
I'm just slightly worried the thing is going to honk out at some point soon. 17 years, thats impressive.
Which boiler manufacturer is it if you don't mind me asking?

My boiler is an Ideal Concord, standard instal when they built the houses. Replaced the fan about 9 years ago, and otherwise trouble free.

yes, mines a Concord, at least 35 years old and going strong. Maybe I'll get it serviced one day....

New boilers seem to be lots of hassle, not 'hassle free'.
  • All these old boilers still working after 40-50 years. What manufacturers and plumbers need to invent is a boiler that goes belly up after 10 years for the good ones and 5 years for the poor quality ones and needs replacing at 6 grand a pop ......... lets see ............... oh yes ! combi condensing boilers.

Have you found combi boilers generally don't last as long as open vent and system boilers? I'd never heard that before...
  • That's the thing with boilers, and why I was thinking about Hassle Free Boilers, because maintenance and repairs and the initial cost and installation are included for a small monthly charge - it seemed like an interesting way to go about the whole boiler thing.
Has anyone had any experience with a pay monthly boiler company?

Sounds v expensive in the long run, esp when your first stated objective was to reduce ongoing costs. How long are you tied into this 'small monthly charge'?
