BT Internet/Yahoo e-mail

Since Yahoo carried out maintenance on Saturday night/Sunday morning, I can receive but not send e-mail through Outlook using my main (i.e. account holder) e-mail address, however my sub-account e-mail addresses work. I spent nearly all day yesterday searching for solutions to no avail. Anybody had the same thing happen or any clues what might be wrong. I have tried repairing the account using Outlook, changed password, rejected the idea of removing my main e-mail address and adding it again (as Outlook would delete all my e-mails). Using Windows 7 and Outlook 2013

    Ignore my query, just tested it and it works!! How annoying, I'd like to think I did something yesterday that fixed it but more likely Yahoo have completed their maintenance properly!

    Sorry, but to generalise solutions to BT/Yahoo/talktalk email which all continue to be a problem (and will always be a problem?)

    1. use the providers webmail access; this will tell you exactly what mail is stored by the provider; clients, whether POP or IMAP have frequent sync problems which makes it difficult to work out whether email is there or not

    2. while using webmail, get an email address from a reliable provider; I cannot really help here. I suggest Google or Microsoft for home/free email; if you're a business or email is vital to you please pay for a reliable hosted service.

    3. while continuing to use your original email provider's webmail tell everybody about your email address change;

    4. if you want to be 100% sure that you have a local copy of the mail from your original (or for that matter any) email provider then make a local backup of your email in a nice easy serachable format (rather than nasty "pst" files for example).
