Massive Car Insurance question

Hello all, I could do with some advice on a car insurance policy please.

My car ins is due on the second of July, I have already taken out a policy for £600 about three weeks ago. After speaking to my brother today he said to do a quote for ins on a comparison site and add our dad to the policy.

After doing this the quote came back as £450!! The only problem is its with the same people who charged me the 600 that I took the policy with!

So my questions are.
Would it be ok to call them and say I have found it cheaper, cancel the policy then reset it back up online through the comparison site and pay the £450.

Even if they charge a fee for cancellation I will still save about £100+

Will they cancel my second policy if they rumble what I have done? Is it wrong to do this or just immoral? Is it legal?

It is both moral and legal to cancel a contract and set up a new one.

I would phone them first and ask how much you would save adding your dad. Tell them what you are planning and they may match it.
  • Herein lies the moral bit, if I ring them and ask I'm sure they will not match the online quote. If they don't want to match it I'm giving them a heads up of what I'm about to do. They might cancel the original ins and put a block on my attempt at the new cheaper policy. Do you think they would do that lol?

Was the second-best quote that far off that you have to use your existing insurer?

    Why would they do that?

The first was with tesco bank, the second was with tesco bank plus. The difference was another £50.

@rs65. maybe because I am saving myself money and getting the same policy they might not like me playing the system and benefitting at their expense?

I think I will do it anyway, gotta be worth it if I can save myself 120 squids.

I'll ring them tomorrow and let you know what happens! Thanks for the replies
