Wonder if anyone can help on a problem we have.
We've just bought a Canon MG3250 all n one printer which, according to Canon's literature is compatible with our Windows XP laptop. The laptop has service pack 2 on it. Now found out the it's NOT compatible in that you need service park 3 fitted !!
I updated the laptop to sp3 but this caused upteen problems - couldn't read emails in Outlook Express, Parts of the Control panel options (Internet options) missing and service restore option completely disappeared. I have now removed sp3 and am back running service pack 2.
So we're at a situation where the laptop is back to normal apart from the fact we cannot print anything !
Is there a way of getting this printer running on xp with sp2 ?

Sorry but given that WIndows XP SP3 was released in 2008 you can't really expect to buy a new printer and have it work with SP2. In fact XP was retired by Microsoft in April 2014. I'm not one for upgrading for the sake of lining the pockets of big software companies but there comes a point where you really can't expect manufactures to always be backwards compatible.
If you really must continue with the laptop then I'd suggest backing up all your data and doing a clean install of Windows XP or factory restore. Then install SP3 before loading another other software or putting your data back. The update probably failed due to years of accumulated updates and other junk. Once you have XP updated as far as possible not only will your laptop be as secure as possible, it should then work with the printer software.0 -
If the driver says it requires SP3, then it'll be a lot easier to fix the SP3-related problems rather than trying to find a way to get the driver to work with SP2.
For security alone, it would be worth updating to SP3. As colin79666 says, a clean installation of XP sounds like the way to go, given the problems you've had.0 -
Ditto to both above. But if you want to try this first before doing a fresh clean install try installing SP3 in safemode first. BTW you've probably got loads of nasties hidden away though as SP3 gave more security.“Learn from the mistakes of others. You can never live long enough to make them all yourself.”

If installing SP3 causes so many problems, I would be questioning the integrity of your current installation of Windows XP with SP2 installed.
If you really must stay behind the times, install Windows XP from fresh, install SP3, then install the drivers required for your hardware. Reinstalling Windows will give you the added benefit of a speed boost that comes from a normally functioning computer.0
