Replacing Corrugated Asbestos Roof

Hi all,
Just wondering if anyone knows if you could replace an asbestos roof with wood? I am thinking of replacing my entire garage roof as it's leaking quite heavily now. After a lot of patching up. I just wanted to know if anyone has tried this, or if there is anything I should watch out for? It's a Gable style roof. The wooden panels on all sides just under the asbestos roof at the moment have rotted away, so they will also need replacing.
Many thanks!

I would have thought the easiest thing to replace it with would be to use corrugated bitumen sheeting.0

First of all, don’t panic. Corrugated asbestos-cement sheeting is made from white asbestos, also known as chrysotile. This is the least dangerous form of asbestos, and some writers have suggested it is not hazardous at all. Not that I’d agree with that. I have lost friends and building colleagues to asbestos-related disease, and I always urge caution.
However, HSE (Health and Safety Executive) advice is that where asbestos-cement materials are in sound condition, it is usually better to leave them in place, as the removal process itself risks releasing more fibres into the surrounding environment than if it were left undisturbed. There are specialist coatings that can be used to seal asbestos-cement roofs, such as Roofite from watco.co.uk (01483 418418).
In the event you are convinced fibres are being released from your neighbour’s roof, I suggest you seek advice from the HSE. Its website contains a wealth of free information (hse.gov.uk/asbestos). You can also report your concerns to your local authority Environmental Health Department.Do you want your money back, and a bit more, search for 'money claim online' - They don't like it up 'em Captain Mainwaring0 -
Have you tried the garden building centre in chesterfield? they do full roof replacements. they dispose of your current roof - whether it's asbestos or not as they are fully licensed asbestos removers, and replace it with a steel plastisol sheeting that comes in different colors. they also replace your barge boards for free!
The team that come out out are friendly and the job takes less than a day
