I am trying to download a form online, but when I click on the download link it, a window appears and says "You are trying to use Office but don't have office. Then it gives options : Buy, Activate, or Try. I don't want to buy nor try it, how can I download the form successfully without that window appearing? Or is there a free alternative that will work and download the form?

Is it a .doc or .docx file?

Libreoffice is probably the easiest option.

Chances are you did at some point have Office installed and its helper application is what's popping up the window. Instead, right click the download link to save the form, then right click the form to choose whatever app you choose to open it.

    I think it's a .doc file.
I don't understand why I would have its helper application on my computer, as I have never had Office installed on this newish computer.
Maybe a Microsoft trick to make you buy it?
I will try to download LibreOffice and see if I can download the file with it.

I think there are many sites that can show a doc file online.
E.g. Google Drive does it. So does Gmail.

Or you can try opening it with WordPad or even Notepad. Right click >> open with.

I have downloaded LibreOffice twice, the first time I have done a typical download, but it didn't work, that Office window was coming up every time, whatever I did.
So I have uninstalled it and downloaded it again, but this time I had chosen custom download. The module that would allow the programme to open an Office file was crossed (so was another module). I uncrossed that module and then I was allowed to tick whether I wanted the Office documents to be open by LibreOffice.
Now it works, I could download the form.
Why don't they put the option to tick whether you want to open Office documents with this program when you chose a typical download, I don't know, but I find it illogical.
If I had paid for Office, would I want to download another program that would do exactly the same thing? I don't think so.
