Burglar Alarm

Hi,
I give a warning that this might seem like a stupid question to some and I have tried to google it but cant find the answer im looking for.
Basically, I am moving into a property in a week or so and it has a burglar alarm fitted.
This is my first ever experience with a burglar alarm and so I am unsure about one particular thing.
If I set the alarm before going to bed at night, what happens when I wake up to go to the loo during the night or when I wake up in the morning?
Wouldn't the alarm start going off?

It depends on what triggers the alarm.
If it's sensors on the windows and external doors - then it will only go off if you open the windows or external doors.
If it's movement detectors downstairs - then it will only go off if you go downstairs.
If it's movement detectors upstairs and downstairs - then it will go off if you move around upstairs or downstairs (and is probably only intended to be set when the property is empty).
You should ask the vendor this question.0 -

Thanks, figured it was better to ask now rather than it go off if I get caught short on my first night in the place! haha0 -
It depends how the system is set up. I have two settings on mine, one for when I leave the place empty and a partial set for overnight, cunningly arranged so that I can indeed go to the loo during the night without setting it off.0

Not answering your question (as answered above), but is it a professional alarm? Monitored? Or a DIY job?
If professional, you can probably get a discount on your house insurance. but be warned, if you get a discount, always set it when you go out.
If you fail to set it ad get burgled, the insurers won't pay out.....0 -
No alarm will be configured so it goes off if you go to the loo in the dead of the night unless you go downstairs but make sure you get the instructions from the current owner and also detail of who services it.0
