Could get another card. Wanted the cash back and good abroad rates with nationwide.

You're allowed to have more than one credit card at a time. :rotfl:

Keep your old one and use it for contactless transactions.

You may be been better off getting a Halifax Clarity card instead. It offers slightly better rates abroad, free cash withdrawals abroad, is contactlesss and you can nab a free tenner a month when you spend £300 on it and jump through a few hoops with a Halifax Rewards account.

I do not want any form of contactless card, debit or credit. I am a NW customer (Internet bank) and would refuse/not use this service if offered.
I think this job really needs
    a much bigger hammer.

it is ironic that some people are very keen on contactless, whilst others are disabling their contactless cards

Well good luck with that when your debit card is replaced. All new NW debit cards are contactless and nationwide doesn't let you opt out. Looks like you'll be finding a new bank...(although given MasterCard (And Visa will probably soon as well) has pretty much mandated contactless, your going to end up with one anyway).

You can opt yourself out with a sharp knife. In the right place a small cut opens the antenna coil disabling the contactless function.

There is some information on the net about it. For some cards a very bright light lets you see the coil through the card, others you will need to know or guess a right place.

Mobile phones with NFC can read the cards and so be used to check they are disabled.

I'm with Robisere, contactless cards are a horrible idea and I won't carry one as a matter of principle. The annoying thing is it is not the contactless that saves time, it is not entering a PIN and not waiting for data communications to confirm the transaction that saves time.

Sticking a card in a slot takes no time at all, especially if you have multiple cards and already have to take the one you want to use out of your wallet/handbag to make sure the right one is used and avoid them interfering with each other. The minor convenience of being able to wave a wallet (if you only have one card) just isn't worth the privacy implications of carrying an RFID tag which allows you to be electronically detected and monitored (like cattle with RFID tags riveted to their ears).

Some good points about how much time is really saved, I would hope in a few years the swipe will be faster and on a phone rather than on a card (I know this exists already). It is interesting how some people are for and against, but there was with ATMS and is with internet banking.
