How to get home insurance during building works?

Hi all,
searched and found nothing on this so...
building works are about to take place on our property in excess of 50 grands worth, for the next 3 months.
Realised I should inform my home insurance company, who after a very short call told me my home insurance had been cancelled and they couldn't help me! Marvellous.
So in the last 2 days I've been trying to get quotes which take building works into consideration. Only one comparison site seemed to take building works into consideration. Took out that policy after combing the T&Cs... long story short they cancelled the policy also. We were offered something at twice the price and were told we may be able to downgrade the insurance after for a refund, but they could say for certain.
So, I'm after advice from either a broker or someone who's been in a similar position and found a home insurance solution that worked out.
Please help! I've gotta sort this by midnight :-/
Thanks

Which insurers have you tried?
I did a simple google search for 'home insurance broker building works' and had a few insurers come up.0 -
Yeah I've heard of that google thing...
A quote from such a specialist was £1200, more than twice the amount that was twice the amount I was originally going to pay.
Anyone with experience of such insurance please?Friendly greeting!0
